Bitter gourd Gojju (Kakarakaya Gojju)


Bitter gourd ----4
Green chillis ---2
Tamarind ----lemon size
Urad dal-----3 tsp
Channa dal –3 tsp
Sesame seeds ---- 3 tsp
Peanuts --------3 tsp
Turmeric powder – pinch
Salt ------enough
Red chilli powder----1/2 tsp
Mustard seeds ----1/4 tsp
Asafoetida -----Pinch
Curry leaves --- 2 strings


1.Soak tamarind for 20 minutes. Squeeze the tamarind and take out tamarind pulp.

2.Fry urad dal, channa dal, peanuts, sesame seeds and grind to fine powder.

3.Chop bitter gourd into long pieces.

4.Chop green chillis into big pieces.

5.In a pan, heat oil and prepare seasoning with mustard seeds and asafoetida.

6.Add chopped bitter gourd and green chillis. Mix well and cover with a lid.

7.Once the bitter gourd pieces are soften, add tamarind pulp and let it cook.

8.Let the chopped pieces boil along with tamarind pulp. Add grounded powder and red chilli powder.

9.The gravy gets thickening. ( If it is too tight, you can add little water).

10. Add salt and mix well.

11.Add curry leaves and let cook for a while.

Tasty bittergourd gojju is ready. Eat with hot rice and enjoy.
