Channa Dal – Ridge Gourd Curry


Ridge gourd – 2
Channa dal ---- ½ cup
Onion ---- 1
Tomato ----1
Green Chillis ---2
Red chilli powder ---- ¼ tsp
Salt --- for taste
Sesame seeds ---- ½ tsp
Coriander leaves ----2 strings

Seasoning Items :
Mustard seeds --- ¼ sp
Cumin seeds ----1/4 tsp
Urad dal --- ¼ tsp
Oil ----3 tsp
Asafoetida--- Pinch
Turmeric powder ---- Pinch


1.Boil channa dal and keep aside.

2.Grind sesame seeds to powder and keep aside. ( no need to fry sesame seeds)

3.Chop onion, tomatoes, Ridge gourd (Take out the peal), green chillis, coriander leaves into fine pieces and keep aside.

4.Heat little oil in a pan and prepare seasoning with all the seasoning ingredients.

5.Add chopped onions and fry till golden brown color.

6.Add chopped ridge gourd, tomato and green chilli pieces and mix well. Let it cook for a while.

7.Add boiled channa dal, sesame seed powder, salt, red chilli powder and mix well. Let it cook together for 2 more minutes.

8.Garnish with coriander leaves and trun off the stove.

Very tasty dish – Channa dal Ridge gourd curry is ready. It tastes good with white rice/ Chapathi/ rotis.
